A big fat picnic and lots of dancing

We’ve just had our staff ‘picnic’ to celebrate Picnic Month in Lancashire and alot of the talk around the table was about the Picnic World Record Attempt at Clitheroe on Bank Holiday Monday.

It made me think…. how many of our Lancashire tourism businesses have been promoting this and other major events on their  website, blog, tweets or conversations with potential visitors? Are you capitalising on giving people a reason to visit and stay?

Research shows that people often use an event as a trigger point for a short break. You need to know what events are on where in Lancashire and push your business to be part of them or be linked to them as ideal places to stay/eat etc.

A good place to start is www.visitlancashire.com. Our home page  has event highlights and the What’s On section enables you to search by date and area. Find the events that are relevant to you and start to promote them. Talk about them on your website (link to us for further details). Tweet to your followers about them. Blog about how great the event was last year. Offer a special deal……(which we might Tweet for you!)

So I hope that all you accommodation providers from Pendle to Blackpool, from Carnforth to Ormskirk are promoting the start of the Spring Bank Half Term with the Out2Dance Street Dancing World Record Attempt in Blackpool and the World Record Largest Picnic Attempt at the newly opened Clitheroe Castle.

If not, and you want to start looking further afield then search or website for events in July and August and start to push these in your own marketing to help to entice those visitors in!

And for those of you who Staff Picnic 22nd May 2009were wondering…. our picnic was great. Not a sandwich in sight and great practice for Monday. Special thanks go to Barbara for organising and making scrummy chocolate brownies, Anna for the meatballs and the feta cheese in courgette, Sally for the goats cheese tartlets and Suzi for the ‘special’ punch.

See you all at Clitheroe Castle.
